Typo

[edit]

There is a typo in the diagram for compatibilism. It reads 'hard determimism' rather than 'hard determinism'. Flenjo (talk) 14:26, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Still not fixed as of 2025. HerbertDibDab (talk) 17:11, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Confusingly ambiguous use of surnames without first names

[edit]

"Mackie married Joan Meredith in 1947. One of their three children, Penelope Mackie, also became a philosopher. She lectured in philosophy at the University of Birmingham from 1994 to 2004, and then at the University of Nottingham from 2004 until her death in 2022. Mackie's son David is also a philosopher and graduated from Oxford University, where he held lectureships at Exeter College, Corpus Christi College, and Christ Church before being appointed a Fellow and Tutor at Oriel College."

Ambiguous to whom the bolded word refers--presumably to Penelope Mackie, given that the previous sentence says that "one" of the chuldren became a philosopher, but in every other instance where "Mackie" is used in the article about Mackie, including the previous sentence, "Mackie" refers to J.L.Mackie. I won't change myself as I'm legitimately uncertain if this is the correct interpretation or if the "one of three" thing is just distinguishing Penelope as one of the three children, or THE one of the three children that became a philosopher, and don't have the requisite knowledge of their family to sort this out.
