Hello Skal and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Hi Siva. I'm currently working on rewriting the section on Carnatic theory for the nynorsk wikipedia to make fewer references to Western musical concepts, and explain basic theoretical notions in more detail. In connection with that, I've added a few comments to the 'Tonic v Key' debate on the Carnatic music article which, hopefully, will be of some help. --Aravindhan 17:57, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I would like to revive this project. Are you interested in working on it? J3ff 06:48, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I'm almost surprised to see myself typing this, but I don't think I'm interested in it. I think that what we really need is better and more complete articles in es:. Personally, I see less point in translating to English than in translating from English.--Siva 02:01, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Latrunculi.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Latrunculi.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 13:46, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. The image is under the "fair use" license. I'm not sure what specific fair-use tag to apply, so I just put in a generic one. When I find time, I will verify the nature of the license. --Siva 00:38, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Just letting you know I have created a userbox for WikiProject Writing Systems at Template:User WikiProject WS. It looks like this:

Just add {{User WikiProject WS}} to your userpage. BTW, any questions or comments should be directed to the project's talkpage, as I will be spamming this message to all current members. Thanx!--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 22:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Help for template
[edit]Hi, this is the ikiroid again, trying to scout out help for Wikipedia:WikiProject Writing systems. I'm looking for anyone who can help contribute to Template:Infobox Writing system. It's an esoteric sort of template, copied from Template:Infobox Language that now needs to be revised for writing system pages. All ideas and comments about it should be directed to Template talk:Infobox Writing system. Contact me with any questions or comments. Thanks!--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 21:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Featured article work for WikiProject Writing Systems members
[edit]Hello WikiProject WS members, it's the ikiroid again, spamming for help.....this time, it's for working on an article. We're trying to bring the article about the International Phonetic Alphabet up to featured status, and it would be great if anyone from our project would be willing to lend a helping hand. You can make suggestions about what to improve in the article here, where we're keeping track of the article's renovation. Thanks for reading. Feel free to ask me any questions about the article's improvement.--The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 23:17, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Visigothic
[edit]I did look at the page, and I saw that it does have some references to Visigothic script, but it's just a newsletter from some SCA-type internet newsgroup. I don't think it's quite what we want for an external link. Adam Bishop 05:43, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I know we're not anywhere near completion, but I've been wanting to give you this anyway.

For making a ton of edits in order to improve International Phonetic Alphabet. Thank you!!!!! The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 16:19, 26 August 2006 (UTC) |
By the way, you don't need to mark so much stuff as a minor edit. Many editors exclude minor edits from their watchlist, so if you did more than revert vandalism, fix spelling, or link a word, you can mark it as a major edit. You don't need to be so humble :-) The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 16:19, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Pitman shorthand consonant table
[edit]I was glad to see that you added a table of the consonant outlines to the Pitman shorthand article. But I thought you'd like to know that some of the outlines don't display properly on my computer. I wonder if you'd have the time to have a look at this and see if it's possible to improve them.
My computer is fairly conventional - Dell, three years old, running Windows XP - but only the p, b ch, j, th, dh, s and z display correctly. (Though having said that, the ch looks as though it is a thick stroke while the j is a thin one - shouldn't it be the other way round? Sorry if I'm wrong on this, it's a long time since I used Pitmans on a daily basis.)
The other characters come up as follows: the t and d are both broken in two instead of being a single vertical stroke. The difference in thickness isn't really visible either.
The k and g look too short, as though they are halved.
The f, v, sh, zh, l and r all come up as square boxes, which is a symbol I've see before when my computer doesn't know how to display a character.
And lastly, w, y and h don't appear at all.
I'd be happy to try and fix this myself, except that I don't know how you've managed to produce the strokes at all, so I thought it would be best just to let you know about the display problems in the hope that you can identify what's going wrong. Adrian Robson 09:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Natural phonetics, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. — Swpb talk contribs 02:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Latrunculi.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Latrunculi.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Liftarn 14:38, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Chinese book design
[edit]Hello Skal. I tried to search in the Commons, but couldn't find a scann which, showing clearly the basic typographical format, will be useful to you. I can upload some if you need them. But are you going to make a East Asian-style book? In that case you also need to know about the binding, as well as the typographical convention. You can take a look at traditional Chinese bookbinding first. Cheers.--K.C. Tang 01:24, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
A template you created, Template:Manyproofs, has been marked for deletion as a deprecated and orphaned template. If, after 14 days, there has been no objection, the template will be deleted. If you wish to object to its deletion, please list your objection here and feel free to remove the {{deprecated}} tag from the template. If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. --MZMcBride 23:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KaiLungUnrollsHisMat-Cover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:KaiLungUnrollsHisMat-Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
